Creative Achievement Academy (CAA) students received a hands-on lesson in philanthropy this past week. Ms. Arianna, a recent CAA elementary school music teacher, was devastated by the loss of several family members in the Venezuelan earthquakes. Staff and students were called to do what they could to ease the burden of so many people left without resources or proper medical care.
Ms. Fulton and Ms. Judy joined with other staff to develop a service project the students would be able to contribute to.
After a lesson on Venezuela, students and staff used their time and creativity to ease the burden of young people like the students themselves. The group designed 60 bags filled with hygiene supplies designated to go to a hospital that has many young amputees because of the quakes.
They painted the bags with joyful artwork, and they added a message of hope in Spanish, thanks to Ms. Judy’s translation. Lastly, they signed their bags and tagged them as male or female.
Ms. Arianna came to pick up the 60 bags the students and staff designed and filled. She was deeply thankful for all the effort and thoughtfulness. The bags will be going directly to a hospital for victims who were severely injured in the earthquakes.
