On February 27th, Archway Upper School celebrated Black History Month with music, recitations, history, and dance. Staff, students, and guests entertained and informed a packed audience about the many accomplishments of African Americans throughout history. Ms. Erica opened the Annual Black History Program with a beautiful rendition of “Lift Every Voice (The Black National Anthem).”
Mr. Darius recited “I, Too,” and Mr. Mark read “You Must Learn.” A group of students reminded the audience of the Black History Inventors and their contributions. A group of talented students performed an Afrobeat Dance, and Ms. Fannie shared a stark reminder about the state of “Historically Black Colleges and Universities.”
The audience enjoyed an Afrobeat Line Dance performed by staff, and Upper School student Nikita recited a moving “I Am the Black Child.” A special guest, Egypt, sang a beautiful rendition of “Rise Up” before Mr. Mark shared closing remarks concerning educating our youth about inclusion and diversity.
Thank you to the entire staff for their hard work and dedication to creating the excellent program. Thank you to the maintenance crew for setting up and taking down the tables, chairs, and stage and to all the performers who shared their talents with everyone.
